EARLY – During Friday’s special called meeting, the Early City Council approved awarding a bid to Mobley Construction, LLC at a cost of $396,363 for the construction of the Early Town Center Project lake.

“We received five bids and there was quite a lot of difference between low bid and high bid,” said Early City Administrator Tony Aaron. “They had different strategies about how they were going about doing the construction. If you look at the bids from high to low, it just came down to their approach to the job.”

The most expensive bid came in at $1.9 million from a company in Mississippi, according to Aaron, while the least expensivee bid was $384,175, but did not include a bid bond, so it was disqualified.

Regarding the choice of Mobley Construction, Aaron said during the meeting, “Jeff (Mobley) has been around here a long time. We know Jeff, but that’s not why we’re selecting him. We’re selecting him because when know the reputation of his work, he cut us a good price and we have confidence that he’ll get the job done.”

Estimated completion on the construction of the lake portion of the Early Town Center Project is March 2023.
