SAN ANGELO – Facing the 17th-ranked Class 6A volleyball program in the state Tuesday, the Brownwood Lady Lions were given a rude welcome and handed a 25-9, 25-11, 25-8 defeat.
“We played a hard game and the stats and score don’t represent how hard the girls played,” said Lady Lions fourth-year head coach Allison Smith. “We had some amazing hits and attacks but Central just did not allow anything to hit the ground. They have a super solid program this year.”
Ibis Alvarado paced the Lady Lions with four kills followed by two from Aubrie Felux and one each from Ava Choate, Kassidy Wooten, Miranda Northcutt, and Aniah Hines.
Alvarado dished out 61 assists, while Hines and Alvarado served Brownwood’s two aces.
Defensively, Choate, Northcutt, Hines and Alvarado logged one block apiece, while Alvarado and Wooten were credited with one dig apiece.
Central improved to 7-1 with the win, while the Lady Lions slipped to 2-6.
Brownwood will return to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23 when it hosts Granbury NCTA.
