VERIBEST – The Early Lady Horns finished fourth in their bracket over the weekend, posting a 2-4 record at the Veribest volleyball tournament.
Early knocked off Grape Creek in three sets Friday and Rochelle in three sets Saturday. Losses came at the hands of Sonora, the San Angelo Central Freshmen, Fort Davis and the San Angelo Central JV.
In Friday’s 25-19, 23-25, 26-24 win over Grape Creek, Dakota Barksdale tallied five kills followed by Averey Horton, Stoney Laughlin and Matty Boswell with four each, Gabby Leal with three, and Madison Torrez, Trinity Torrez and Jenna Hataway with one apiece.
Trinity Torrez served three aces while, Boswell, Barksdale, Hataway, Leal and Madison Torrez added one each.
Trinity Torrez also finished with 14 assists while Leal chipped in three.
Defensively, Boswell recorded five digs and Hataway and Katie Whitehead were each credited with one.
Barksdale logged Early’s lone block.
In Saturdays 25-11,13-25, 25-23 triumph over Rochelle, Barksdale paced the attack with four kills followed by Trinity Torrez with three, Leal and Laughlin with two apiece, and Horton and Boswell with one each.
Trinity Torrez recorded 10 assists and served two aces, while Leal led the team with three aces and Hataway chipped in one.
Defensively, Hataway logged three digs, Leal finished with two and Boswell and Madison Torrez were each credited with one.
Early (3-4) will host Veribest at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
