Piano & Paint with Mac & Christine will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Lyric Theatre.
As part of the Dale Wheelis Memorial Concert Series at the Lyric, concert pianist Mac Bynum and world-renowned artist Christine Brisley will provide two hours of beautiful music and art to help benefit The Ark, Corinne T. Smith Animal Center, Lyric Theatre, and Brownwood Art Association.
“We’ve done a couple of things like this before, but not in public, just at parties,” Brisley said in a Friday morning interview on KOXE. “We both agreed that music is very influential to how you feel. When I’m playing Willie Nelson I’m happily slushing about, maybe with some abstracts, and when I’m playing Pavarotti I’m probably painting Italian landscapes. If Cher goes on, I’m really getting into it.”
Brisley added, “He’s going to start playing, and whatever comes into my feeling at that time, I’m going to paint. I haven’t got a clue what I’m going to paint, but the canvas is 30 x 40 so I better make up my mind pretty quick. I’ve got 35 to 40 minutes to paint a whole painting. I’m doing two, one before the intermission and one after.”
The paintings will appear on the websites of the The Ark, Corinne T. Smith Animal Center, The Lyric Theatre, and the Brownwood Art Association next week, where bids can be placed to purchase the works.
“Those are four things close to my heart,” Brisley said of the charities. “I would love to see a lot of people there so we can make people aware and want to buy the paintings. I think it’ll be interesting for people. We’re going to give 100 percent of the money from the show to these charities.”
Tickets are available at brownwoodlyrictheatre.com for $20 each. All seats are reserved upon purchase. There will be a time of meet and greet following the concert. Pre-show drinks are available for purchase along with items from the concession during the intermission.
