Jimmie Wayne Smith, 90, of Brownwood, died Saturday, July 30, 2022 at his residence. The family will host a time of reflection and visitation Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street in Coleman. Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service honoring Jimmie’s life 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2022 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Shaw officiating. Interment will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Jimmie Wayne Smith was born October 4, 1931 in Coleman County to Carl Smith and Elva Wells Smith. He grew up in Coleman, Santa Anna, Grosvenor and Bangs and served in the Air Force. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Jimmie went to work for Tidewater Oil Company in Venice, Louisiana. He moved back to Texas, working for B.J. Services in Crane. Jimmie moved to east Texas, working in Tyler as a bread salesman and later worked for the Farmer/Stockman Magazine, which took him all over east and west Texas. Jimmie also worked in road construction in Waco and later on the Cotton Belt Railroad in Bellmead and Kilgore. He retired as a conductor.
After retiring, Jimmie made his home in Brownwood, where he has lived the last 35 years. Jimmie grew up attending the Church of the Nazarene with his parents. He loved singing at church events and playing his guitar. He would go camping, fishing and hunting every chance he had. Jimmie tinkered on cars, trucks and tractors. He could fix anything and make it run.
Preceding Jimmie in death are his parents, Carl and Elva Smith; two sons, Terry Wayne Smith, Rickie Lynn Smith and the mother of his children, Theresa Smith.
Jimmie is survived by his daughter Anthonette “Toni” Ferguson and her husband, Billy of Kilgore; his son, Delbert D. Smith and wife, Brenda, of Longview; his brother, Delbert Dee Smith and wife, Madelyn, of Bangs; his sister, Cindy Mitchell and husband, Don, of Cayuga. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Theresa Ann Henry and husband, Jimmy, of Joplin, Missouri, Michael John Ferguson and wife, Chrissy, of Liberty Hill, Christopher Smith of Madisonville, Amy Lynn Smith of Beaumont, Rebecca Smith of Longview; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
