NOTE: Throughout the month of July, BrownwoodNews.com is publishing stories daily on 40 standout citizens under the age of 40 making a positive impact and contribution within the Brown County community.
Though their careers impact Brownwood and the surrounding area in vastly different ways, the husband-and-wife team of Daniel and Emily Hutson provide local residents with significantly valuable services.
Daniel is the Senior Vice President at TexasBank while Emily owns her own arts company, Hutson Creative. Both are 34 years of age.
“I do greeting cards that I sell at Earth & Noble downtown,” said Emily, who has been in business for two years. “I also do watercolor painting parties, which I’ve done at local businesses, and I also hold private parties. I also do some graphic design, that’s what my degree was in for my career before this. I still do some freelance work with that. I also do commissions, watercolor paintings for people of houses, pets, all kinds of things.”
Daniel, who recently celebrated his seventh anniversary at TexasBank, said, “I really enjoy working with people, I am a people person, and seeing their projects come to fruition. When they’re happy, I’m happy. I do like helping folks get to that finish line, whatever it is whether it’s an apartment complex or purchasing that asset for some mailbox money, I enjoy that piece of it.”
Outside of work, Daniel is president of the Brownwood Municipal Development District board, treasurer for Latch Key at First Christian Church, and he serves as Government Relations Council for the Texas Bankers Association. Emily is a member of the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit committee.
“Last year we brought the art show back to the community after a few years off with COVID and I love being involved with that,” Emily said. “We’re very big on art education and having kids from local schools come through the art show and see the demonstrators. I’m passionate about making sure we have the arts here in Brownwood and that it’s accessible to kids in our community and they have the opportunity to experience that.”
Daniel added, “We benefit so much from the community both personally and professionally that it’s imperative that we give back. To be involved is huge. What makes Brownwood a great place, in my opinion, is all the great people that live here.”
Looking ahead to their work-related futures, Daniel said, “For me, it’s two-fold. I enjoy making deals happen, so I would like to do more of those, I’m a deal guy. Maybe down the road if someone would like I’d love to run a bank someday, maybe it’s TexasBank. I think I would love to run a bank someday.”
Emily added, “For me, I’d like to continue doing what I’m doing, but in the future the goal I have is to make cards and have them at more businesses, maybe not just in Brownwood but across the state.”
The couple – who have two kids, 12-year-old Eli and 6-year-old Andy – thanked their many friends within the community for their support.
“We’re so thankful to have so many great friends and a support system here in Brownwood,” Emily said. “We don’t have family locally, but we have friends that feel like family here. This is a great place to raise our kids and we’re so thankful for that. I grew up in Houston, so I really appreciate Brownwood. People know my kids and support us as a family. We love our church, Coggin, and we’ve gotten great support from that as well.”
Daniel added, “I’m very appreciative of Emily, without her I couldn’t do what I can. I’ve got two guys here at the bank, Greg Dodds and Doug McClain, that have been so instrumental in my career. They look at the long game more than just the day to day and they’ve invested in me not only professionally but personally.”
