The Brownwood Lions, who moved to District 2 after spending the last four years in District 5 of Region II, are now the league favorites over Andrews, Lubbock Estacado, Big Spring and San Angelo Lake View – in that order. However, the magazine is different from Thursday’s website reveal, as Andrews was tabbed to capture the district title in the publication.
Regarding District 2, the website states, “There are some new faces in 2-4A Division II with Brownwood and Lubbock Estacado joining Andrews, Big Spring and San Angelo Lake View in this heavy travel loop. Brownwood may be the team to beat in this district as the Lions move over from a loaded Region II district and they return seventeen starters. Andrews brings a veteran squad back and should challenge for the district title along with always talented Estacado who jumps back to Division I after four years in Division II. Big Spring has made big strides the past two seasons and the Steers should be in the playoff mix.”
Looking ahead to the postseason, the Lions are projected to face District 1 fourth seed El Paso Irvin in the first round of the playoffs. If victorious, Brownwood would then face either District runner-up or District 4 third seed Wichita Falls in the second round; District 1 champion El Paso Riverside, District 2 fourth seed Big Spring, District 4 runner-up Decatur or District 3 third seed Canyon in the third round; and either District 3 champion Dumas, District 4 fourth seed Mineral Wells, District 2 runner-up Andrews, District 1 third seed El Paso Bowie, District 4 champion Springtown, District 3 fourth seed Hereford, District 1 runner-up El Paso Austin or District 2 third seed Lubbock Estacado in the regional championship game.
No postseason projections are offered except for the regional final, where Brownwood is the favorite over Dumas, which was ranked No. 9 in the preseason by DCTF.
