Ruben Salazar, 59, beloved husband, daddy, and welo went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 5th 2022. Visitation and Rosary for Ruben will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday, July 14, at Heartland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10AM on Friday, July 15, at Saint Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Ruben was born on September 15, 1962 in San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato. He was married to the love of his life Maria Lourdes Ponce for 32 years. Together they made their home in Cross Plains, Texas where they were later blessed with 3 children.

He made a career out of farming and ranching with the Stover family for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors and was constantly working on some sort of project. He never came across anything that he wasn’t able to fix, and was the go-to guy for many people.

He was eventually able to purchase his own piece of Texas, specifically big enough to own a few cattle, where he began construction on his dream home. If he wasn’t at work, he could be found working on his property until sundown.

Ruben always reserved Sunday afternoons for his family. Spending time with his granddaughter became something he would look forward to every week.

He loved his nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Being Tio Ruben was something he was so proud of. Ruben was a light and leader for his entire family. He leaves behind so many memories for us to all look back on. His love and devotion to his family and friends is something that will never be forgotten.

Ruben is preceded in death by his father Fernando Salazar. Ruben is survived by his wife, Maria Salazar of Cross Plains; son, Rene Salazar of Cottonwood; daughter, Rosa Salazar and her husband Aaron Wheeler of Cross Plains; daughter, Inez Osornio and husband Jorge Osornio of Comanche; granddaughter Miah Osornio; mother, Juana Salazar, of San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato; numerous siblings and nieces and nephews.
