Brown County Commissioners met Tuesday morning, July 5, with all members present. County Judge Paul Lilly presided over the meeting that lasted 33 minutes.
No action was taken on the Burn Ban, meaning, it remains in place until further action.
Commissioners heard from Rick Russell, representing TK Elevator Corporation regarding courthouse elevator repairs. He suggested Commissioners, in their upcoming budget, be prepared to spend money to repair controls, fixtures and other needed parts while keeping the main bones of the existing elevator. A price quote given was $84,145. The new fiscal year budget begins October 1. Commissioners will be working on budget matters in the coming weeks.
Commissioners gave approval to Brown County Extension Office to purchase new roll-up blinds to replace the old and dilapidated blinds which date back to when the building was occupied by Lone Star Gas. Commissioners approved the $6,500 expenditure which was a bid from Brownwood Decorating.
Commissioners approved a request from Precinct 4 Commissioner Larry Traweek to purchase a 2022 Dodge ¾ ton pickup. After the trade-in of a 2011 model, the cost is $36,500.
Commissioners approved a request from Sheriff Vance Hill to hire two jailers and approved a request from the Sheriff for temporary rank advancement pay to cover vacations and temporary leaves of absence in the department to cover the rest of the fiscal year.
Sheriff Hill reported an inmate count of 188 as of Tuesday morning in the Brown County Jail with 9 of those being inmates contracted from other area counties.
Commissioners approved employee changes in the Maintenance Department with Bryan Switzer moving to the Head of Maintenance position at a rate of $40,000. Carl Greer recently retired. The other maintenance person in the courthouse is Cheri Moseley.
The next meeting of Commissioners will be Monday, July 11.
