Dave Campbell’s Texas Football released its Class A Division II preseason state rankings on Monday, and the perennial powerhouse Richland Springs Coyotes make an appearance at No. 4 in the poll.
The Coyotes, with a six-man record nine state championships to their credit, are coming off a 10-2 campaign and state semifinals appearance.
Richland Springs, which has captured 20 consecutive district titles and won 81 district games in a row, is joined in the Top 10 by District 16 rival Cherokee. The Indians posted a 7-4 mark last year and dropped a 92-70 decision to the Coyotes.
The rest of the Top includes No. 1 Benjamin, No. 2 Balmorhea, No. 3 Jayton, No. 5 Strawn, No. 6 Motley County, No. 7 Whitharral, No. 8 Throckmorton, and No. 9 Klondike.
Strawn is the defending Class A Division II state champion.
