The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory through 7:00 pm Sunday for Brown and neighboring counties. According to KOXE Meteorologist Randy Turner, the Brown County area should reach 106 on Sunday and around 102 on Monday. “Temperatures are then forecast to fall a little, but not much, on Tuesday to 100 then go back up again to the low to middle 100’s by the middle to end of next week and beyond, ” Turner said, adding that the daily cycle of 100 or hotter looks to extend to 10 days and beyond.
The National Weather Service encourages the following actions:
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
