The former Gomez’s Mexican Restaurant, located at 716 West Commerce in Brownwood, will soon have a new tenant.

‘A Taste of China,’ a full Chinese buffet, is hoping to open its doors to Brown County and the surrounding area in the next two months or so.

Manager Alan Zheng said, “We worked at East Palace for a long time before it closed. We don’t want to leave Brownwood and since there’s not a Chinese buffet now, we decided to try our own business and go from there.”

‘A Taste of China’ will be owned by Xiao Yong Yang, according to Zheng, and will feature a blend of different types of Asian food items.

“We learned some recipes from East Palace but we’ve also sent out chefs to different Chinese buffets and restaurant to give us the best quality of food,” Zheng said. “The menu is a little bit of a secret, but we’re thinking about incorporating more things like noodles, and maybe have rotating buffets each night.”

The inside of the building is currently being renovated to meet health and safety codes, as well as provide an updated modern feel.

“The old Gomez’s Restaurant is well known, but the building is a little old,” Zheng said. “We’re renovating it to look like a fresh, new restaurant that will put customers in a better mood while dining in.”
