Following Tuesday’s horrific school shootings at Robb Elementary in Uvalde that has claimed more than 20 lives of students and adults, additional security measures have been shared on Facebook regarding Brown County’s largest two school districts – Brownwood and Early ISD.
Brownwood ISD Superintendent Dr. Joe Young shared the following on Facebook Tuesday night:
The tragedy in Uvalde is gut wrenching. As an educator, the reality that this can affect any of us while at school, a grocery store, a mall, a movie theater, a church, and honestly anywhere we go, gives me pause. As a parent, the thought of those parents saying goodbye this morning unaware it was the final time, is heart breaking. My personal prayers have been intense for everyone.
Brownwood ISD has been in close contact with Brownwood PD throughout the day and an increased presence will be seen and felt across our campuses though the remainder of the year. We appreciate their efforts each day, but in the days ahead it makes sense to increase visibility and security. Thank you to Chief Kading, and SROs Bastardo and Lee for their leadership in this effort.
The City of Early Police Department posted the following on its Facebook page Tuesday night as well:
The shooting at the Uvalde school has placed concerns in us all, especially those with kids in the school system. The last days of school are upon us and the Early Police department would like to help ease the minds of parents in the Early ISD area. The Early Police officers will have officers at each campus in the mornings and as the day ends. During the day we will have officers going from campus to campus to help in keeping all campuses safe.
There are currently no known threats in the Early ISD area. We are taking these steps with the Early ISD administration as a proactive measure and a visible deterrent to ensure the safety of the kids and staff. We ask if anyone hears any type of a threat toward the schools to please call the Early Police Department at 325-646-5322 or 911.
We hope your kids enjoy the last few days of school and we pray for the families, first responders, school staff and all those involved in the horrifying event in Uvalde today.
