BANGS – The Bangs High School Class of 2022 will graduate at 8 p.m. Friday, May 27 at Memorial Stadium. Atop the class of graduates are valedictorian Jackson Light and salutatorian Logan Bishop.
Light is the son of Michael and Carrie Light and will be attending Texas A&M University in College Station. Bishop, the son of Brian and Angel Bishop, will start his education at Angelo State University in San Angelo with plans to eventually move on to the Texas Tech University in Lubbock.
Of the battle for the top spot in the graduating class, Bishop said, “It was a close contest, but it’s been like this since freshman year. I definitely wanted to win. Salutatorian to me is not being the best, but I’m still glad to be in that elite group.”
Light added, “He pushed me pretty hard. I was trying to hold him off the entire time.”
While at Texas A&M, Light intends to major in Engineering.
“I feel like it’s a good way to impact the future and one of the most direct ways to do it,” Light said.
Bishop said of his college plans, “I’m headed to ASU first to get my pre-reqs for the Tech Doctor of Pharmacy from there and just be a pharmacist. I like the medical field, you can help people, with really getting up in their business.”
Both Light and Bishop participated in ag, basketball, football, track, band, and UIL while in high school and were also officers in the National Honor Society.
The students both listed ag teacher Caleb Gamblin among their favorites.
“He has taken us to a couple of state contests and one national contest,” Bishop said.
Regarding what they will miss most about high school, Bishop said, “I’ll miss all my friends. That’s what school is all about. He’s a big part of that. We’ve been best friends since second grade. Going to A&M and ASU, that’s a pretty big difference.”
Looking a decade or more down the road at future plans, Light said, “It would be a cool to have a big company like Tony Stark in Iron Man full of high-tech stuff. I don’t know how realistic that is, but I’d like to do something like that.”
Bishop added, “I’d like to make it in with a chain at first and then branch off and have a smaller town pharmacy, a one off deal that I run.”
