Blanket’s Karli Kinkade earns bronze medal at Class A girls state golf tournament

KYLE – Blanket Lady Tiger Karli Kinkade climbed from fifth place to third Tuesday to claim the bronze medal on the second day of the 36-hole Class A girls golf state tournament at Plum Creek Golf Club, south of Austin.

Kinkade shot a first-round 93 Monday followed by an 88 Tuesday to finish with a 181 composite score. Kinkade finished behind only state champion Halee Jo Johnson (81-86=167) of Happy and silver medalist Maris Pree Goodman of Eula (83-86=169).

The Lady Tigers finished in a tie for 11th place as also competing were Allie Hodges (136-119=255), Karlee Varner (129-144=273), and Katherine Saladana (147-131=278).

Blanket finished with a 987 team score, opening with a 505 Monday followed by a 482 Tuesday.

Robert Lee (390-408=798) won the team state championship followed by runner-up Veribest (421-394=815) and third place Garden City (413-405=818).

Richland Springs’ Sierra Tharp came in 19th place with a 208 total following an opening 106 and closing 102.

In the Class 2A state tournament, Goldthwaite finished at the runner-up with a 754 team score following rounds of 385 and 369 at Lions Muncipal Golf Course in Austin – three strokes better than Normangee (757).

Mason (360-372=732) captured the team state title while Martin’s Mill’s Mia Nixon (69-67=136) won the individual crown by 15 shots.

Goldthwaite’s Brooke Caldwell (80-84=164) finished fifth to pace the Lady Eagles trailed by Hope Hermesmeyer (94-89=183), Abbey Patrick (104-97=201), Maggie Tupin (103-103=206), and Lanna Gore (118-105-223).


San Saba’s Karlee Reed finished tied for 14th place with a 186 total after rounds of 87 and 99.
