AUSTIN – Bangs Lady Dragon senior Maggie Morales placed seventh in the UIL Class 3A girls state long jump competition Thursday morning with a best effort of 17-4.5 at the University of Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Morales, who came in with the ninth-best regional performance among the qualifiers, recorded her best jump at state on the last of her six attempts.

Taylor Nunez of University City Randolph won the state title with a best effort of 19-7.5 followed by silver medalist Ashlyn Bruce of Daingerfield (18-7.5) and bronze medalist Makayla Pavelka of West (18-6.5).

Morales will also compete in the 3A girls state triple jump competition at 1 p.m. today.
