The Brownwood ISD (BISD) Board of Trustees met for a regular session meeting on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. The session was called to order by Board President, Michael Cloy. Early First Baptist Youth Pastor Joe Baucom gave the invocation. Woodland Heights Elementary students Wyatt Stephenson, Drake Stephenson, Trudy Canon, and Chloe Soto led the Pledge of Allegiance.
STUDENT PERFORMANCE
Woodland Heights Elementary students performed “Forever Friends” with Kayleigh Chandler as a soloist, followed by a “Rockin’ Robin” paper plate routine. Performances were led by music teacher, Amy Adams.
INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS
BISD Deputy Superintendent, Ms. Liesa Land highlighted the following Fine Arts programs and classes offered at Brownwood ISD from elementary through high school:
Pre-K-5th grade: Music (dedicated music teacher on every campus)
6th grade: Band, Music, Choir, Art 7-8 grades: Band, Choir, Art, Theatre
9-12 grades: Band, Instrumental Ensemble, Art 1-4, Theatre Production, Theatre Arts 1-4, Technical Theatre, A Cappella Choir, Men’s Choir, Varsity Women’s Choir
Land noted the Band and Choir programs continue to win awards and the BHS one-act theatre production recently placed fifth in the state

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Dr. Young provided brief updates on the following topics:
• BHS Graduation will be at Gordon Wood Stadium on May 27. Information regarding upcoming events for graduating seniors is posted on the Brownwood ISD website.
• Project Neighborhood: BISD received over 500 transfer requests with the majority approved for their first choice. Approval notices are in the process of being sent.

DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS
Special Populations: A Special Populations Program Overview was provided by BISD Special Populations Director Rebecca Faulkner. The number of students currently within Special Populations categories include 497 under Special Education, 310 under Section 504, and 298 in the Dyslexia Program. Additional data included a breakdown of special populations students per campus, staffing information, and specific disabilities at each school.
CONSIDER APPROVAL OF SCHOOL NUTRITION CONTRACT
Brownwood ISD will contract with Southwest Foodservice Excellence for the 2022-2023 school year, with options for renewal of the contract for four additional terms of one year each. BISD Trustee Eric Evans made a motion to approve the school nutrition contract as presented. BISD Trustee Diane Thompson seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
CONSIDER APPROVAL OF TEACHER SALARY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 2022-2023
An increase in salary for teachers of approximately eight percent was recommended to board. The increase includes the 4% bonus previously offered which will now be incorporated in the salaries, plus a 2% increase, plus two 1% longevity increases. In addition, BISD will continue to fully fund employee-only TRS-ActiveCare 1-HD coverage. BISD Trustee Amary Doremus made a motion to approve the presented Teacher Salary Schedule for 2022-2023, along with the teacher incentives included and the BISD fully-funded employee-only TRS-ActiveCare 1-HD coverage. BISD Trustee Eric Evans seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
CONSENT AGENDA
The following items were listed for consideration on the Consent Agenda. 1. Approval of budgeted purchase over $50,000 2. Minutes from April 11, 2022 Trustee Evans moved that the Consent Agenda be approved as presented, with Trustee Thompson seconding the motion. The motion was unanimously approved
