Brownwood Lions head football coach and athletic director announced two new additions to the 2022 football coaching staff Wednesday morning.
Ryan Jackson will serve as wide receivers coach while Caleb Hill will be the quarterbacks coach.
“The good Lord couldn’t have given us two guys that would fit our program and what we need better right now than with those two guys,” Burnett said.
Jackson comes to Brownwood from Odessa High where he served as offensive coordinator for football and was the head track coach.
“He’s a been a head coach in the Panhandle before,” Burnett said. “He’s a good friend of Dex Dennard who I trust with my family. Dex spoke very highly of him and we got him down here and got to visit with him and I think he’s a great fit. He’s going to coach receivers and be the head track coach. He’s excited and his wife’s excited about being here and we’re excited about having them.”
Hill is a former quarterback at Brenham High School and played under current Brownwood assistants Brett Mouser and Bryan Harris. He went on to play collegiality at Blinn College and later the University of Montana.
“He went on to play quarterback in college and works at Air It Out camps with Alan Wartes,” Burnett said. “We needed a quarterbacks coach and a math teacher, and he’s also a phenomenal pitching coach so he’s going to work with the baseball side as well.”
Dennard will be taking over as offensive coordinator for the Lions in 2022, replacing Andy Howard who took the job of head coach in Goldthwaite. Dennard served as head coach and play caller for the undefeated JV Lions during the 2021 campaign.
The Lions are hosting a 7-on-7 league on Mondays in May at Brownwood High School, and will take part in their first 7-on-7 state qualifier on May 21 in Ponder. The 2022 regular season kicks off Aug. 26 at home against Abilene Wylie.
