EASTLAND – The Early Lady Horns and Early Longhorns remained in firm grasp of second place in their respective District 8-3A softball and baseball races with 15-0 victories over Eastland Tuesday.
The softball team locked up the No. 2 playoff seed from 8-3A with its win, improving to 21-6 overall and 10-3 against league foes.
Early scored twice in the first inning, eight times in the fourth and five times in the fifth inning.
The Lady Horns finished with 11 hits and took advantage of three Eastland errors.
Offensive standouts included Marissa Reedy with two hits and three RBIs; Jordan Simmons with two hits and one RBI; Jordyn McIntire with a pair of hits; Taylor Summers and Teagan Lopez with a hit and three RBIs apiece; Grace LaRue with one hit and two RBIs; Gabby Leal with a hit and an RBI; and Aubrey Greaves with a hit.
Lopez went the distance in the circle, tossing five innings of one-hit ball with nine strikeouts.
The baseball team moved 14-4 overall and 9-2 with its victory as the Longhorns collected 13 hits and put the game away with eight runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Caleb McCullough finished with three hits and an RBI; Tucker Hale tallied two hits and three RBIs; Jeremy Brown and Ki Houston both notched two hits and two RBIs; Bradly Roman collected two hits and one RBI; Franky Villarreal posted one hit and two RBIs; and John-Stewart Gordon added a hit as well.
Rylie Hill, McCullough and Roman combined on a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts.
The Early teams host Dublin at 5 and 7 p.m. Friday.
In other action Tuesday, the Bangs Lady Dragons lost to Peaster, 7-2, to slip to 8-5 in district action, fourth place in the 8-3A standings, and 13-8 overall. With Comanche’s 6-4 loss to Brock Tuesday, Bangs is secured of no worse than the fourth playoff seed from 8-3A as the Lady Dragons host Eastland at 5 p.m. Friday.
Also Tuesday, the Bangs Dragons fell to Peaster, 15-3, to drop to 5-14 for the season and 1-11 in league action with Eastland coming to town at 7 p.m. Friday.
