Aspire, a one-night women’s event full of laughter, learning, stories and music, is coming to the Blanket First Baptist Church at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 7.
Three ladies will be taking the stage – Bible teacher Mary Shannon, comedian Kristin Weber, and musician Mia Koehne.
According to the official Aspire website, Shannon’s bio states “From the moment we could sit still in our mother’s arms, we have loved stories. Stories around the supper table are some of the best moments in life and are the times we best come to know these people we call family. Much of our heritage is learned through the passing down of stories. This is exactly how the Bible was passed down for generations yet today people seem to believe that the Bible is a list of do’s and don’ts instead of a beautiful story of love, betrayal, forgiveness and redemption.
Shannon uses her divine knowledge of Scripture to put the story back together again. Many people have several pieces of the puzzle, yet they have no idea how it all fits together in the greatest love story ever told. This is what Shannon does! She has an amazing way of connecting the pieces while sharing some of the funniest yet applicable personal stories you have ever heard.
One minute you are laughing and the next minute you realize that the Holy Spirit just spoke and you have an “aha” moment that will stay with you forever.
Weber bio is as follows: Kristin is a comedian, speaker, and author. Her clean, sharp, and occasionally alternative approach to comedy has brought her all across the United States and Canada, where she has performed at conferences, churches, in popular clubs, on cruise ships and more.
She has worked with comics such as Tim Hawkins, Michael Jr., and Ken Davis, and has headlined numerous events, including The Circuit, a week-long comedy tour in Toronto, Canada. Most recently, Kristin opened for The Mike Huckabee Show at TBN Studios and she speaks at youth conferences and camps all over the country.
Kristin has written two books for teen girls, The Smart Girl’s Guide to God, Guys, and the Galaxy and The Smart Girl’s Guide to Mean Girls, Manicures, and God’s Amazing Plan for Me, published by Barbour Books in 2014 and 2016. She has written for Sisterhood Magazine (formerly Brio Mag from Focus on the Family), as well as contributed to popular blogs like The Gospel Coalition and Stuff Christians Like. She is currently working on her third book and contributes frequently to a variety of blogs and online magazines.
Koehne’s information states, “As a singer/songwriter and worship leader, Mia’s soulful music reflects the painful beauty of human struggles and a passion to worship the God who saves. Her life is a compelling story of sin, surrender, sanctification and song. Living as a testimony to God’s grace and His forgiveness, she is inspired to share that message of hope with others through music as a recording artist, a writer and a speaker. Mia is the wife of Bob and the mother of three children, Chris, Aaron and Miriam.
