LAMPASAS – The Brownwood Lady Lions attempted to rally from a pair of four-run deficits, but Friday’s District 6-4A softball contest ended on an offensive interference call as the Lampasas Lady Badgers held on for a 9-8 victory.
The loss was the seventh in a row for Brownwood (8-10, 0-2), which scored three runs in its final trip to the plate before the controversial call halted the rally.
The Lady Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Lampasas (2-0 in district) put five runs on the board in the bottom of the second. Brownwood crept within 5-3 before the Lady Badgers stretched the lead to 7-3. The Lady Lions again scratched across two runs in the top of the sixth, only for Lampasas to fire back with two of its own in the bottom half.
Brownwood finished with 13 hits – four by Chloe Walls, including a home run, with three RBIs; three, including a pair of doubles, and two RBIs from Annie-Klein Allgood; two from Jeniffer Romero; and one each from Tynlea Wilson, Chelsey Covey, Marian Soto, and Mackenzie Welch.
In the circle, Allgood gave up two earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout and three walks, while the Brownwood defense committed six more errors.
The Lady Lions will shoot for their first district win at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Gatesville (0-1 in district).
