The Bangs Lady Dragons rebounded from their first District 8-3A softball loss with an 11-4 victory over Peaster Friday to remain tied for first place with Brock.
Bangs (5-1 in district) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, then boosted the lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the third after Peaster (4-2 in district) scored three times in the top of the inning. The Lady Dragons tacked on their final three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Lady Dragons tallied 12 hits – three by McKenzie Hughes, who tripled twice and drove in three; two by Jordan Valdez, who doubled and knocked in three; two by Jadyn Miller, who doubled twice and picked up a pair of RBIs; two by Julianna Ethridge, who collected an RBI; and one hit apiece by Jacee Miller, Neeley Bradley and Abby Wolf.
In the circle, Wolf tossed all seven innings and gave up four earned runs on 11 hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.
The Early Lady Horns also got back in the win column Friday with a 16-5 home triumph over Eastland.
The Lady Horns (4-2 in district) erased a 3-0 deficit by scoring twice in the bottom of the second inning and adding four runs in the bottom of the third to grab a 6-3 lead. Early scored three times more in the fourth and, leading 9-5 heading to the bottom of the sixth, tacked on its final seven runs.
Early generated 12 hits – three by Marissa Reedy, who doubled and drove in three; two by Jordyn McIntire, who doubled once and knocked in six base runners; two by Jordan Simmons, who doubled and collected an RBI; two hits by Grace LaRue; and a triple and three RBIs from Aubrey Greaves.
In the circle, Teagan Lopez worked 5.1 innings to notch the win allowing four earned runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts and six walks. LaRue recorded the final two outs.
In District 8-3A baseball action, the Early Longhorns improved to 3-1 in league play with a 10-0 victory over Eastland, while the Bangs Dragons fell to 0-4 with a 16-0 loss to Peaster.
No further information was available on the baseball games.
The Dragons and Lady Dragons visit Eastland Tuesday, while the Longhorns and Lady Horns travel to Dublin.
