The Bangs Lady Dragons are in sole possession of first place in the District 8-3A softball race thanks to their 12-1 win over Millsap Friday, coupled with the Early Lady Horns’ 7-6 triumph over Brock.
Tied at 1 heading to the bottom of the second inning, Bangs (4-0 in district) scored nine runs to seize control and added two more runs in the fourth.
The Lady Dragons finished with eight hits – two by Emily Baker, who drove in three; two by Jacee Miller, who knocked in a pair; one by Julianna Ethridge, who collected two RBIs; and one each by Abby Wolf, Sally Powell, and Sierra Lorah.
In the circle, Wolf, Jadyn Miller, and Neeley Bradley combined on a two-hitter with five strikeouts and four walks.
In the win for Early (3-1 in district), the Lady Horns trailed 6-2 after four innings but scored one in the fifth, three times in the sixth to draw even and ended the game in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh.
Teagan Lopez’s RBI single plated Marissa Reedy with the winning run, after Reedy tripled with two outs.
Early overcame five errors thanks to nine hits – three each by Reedy, who plated one, and Taylor Summers, who drove in two; one by Lopez, who knocked in two; one by Jordan Simmons, who recorded an RBI; and one by Jordyn McIntire.
Lopez worked all seven innings in the circle yielding three earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
In baseball action Friday, the Early Longhorns fell to Brock, 9-1, while the Bangs Dragons dropped a 15-14 decision to Millsap. Further information was not available.
The Longhorns are now 1-1 in district while the Dragons tumbled to 0-2.
Early softball and baseball are headed to Peaster Tuesday, while Bangs softball and baseball venture to Brock. Game times are 5 p.m. for softball and 7 p.m. for baseball.
