The Howard Payne University baseball team recorded 12 hits in a 10-4 non-conference victory over Blackburn College Wednesday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.
The Yellow Jackets outhit the Beavers 12-6 and posted three multi-run innings in the 10-4 non-conference decision.
Down 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, Howard Payne scored four runs to take a 5-4 lead.
In the fifth, the Jackets scored on a ground out to bring home Sam Lampson, a Derek Gifford triple to left field to score Carson Wert, and then a two-run homer by RJ Roberts.
HPU added two runs in the sixth and then three runs in the eighth in the 10-4 final.
RJ Roberts finished 2-for-4 at the plate, William Burford was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Rylee McGee was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Sam Lampson finished 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
HPU’s Bryant Chambers went 4.0 innings in the no decision start allowing three runs on five hits. JT Howard threw .2 inning allowing one run and walking three.
After the four run fifth, Jason Hollingsworth recorded the win in relief throwing 1.1 innings allowing no hits. Ty Garner, Dean Evans, and Nicolas Richards each saw one inning of relief. Richards struckout three in the ninth.
Howard Payne improves to 4-11 overall and Blackburn falls to 0-9 on the year. The Yellow Jackets will play next on the road in a non-conference three game series at the University of Dallas on March 12-13 in Irving, Texas.
