The Texas Department of Public Safety provided preliminary information Monday afternoon on a one-vehicle accident 3.7 miles south of Cross Plains on State Highway 279 that claimed the life of two Brownwood residents the morning of Sunday, March 6.
According to the DPS report, a 2002 Chevrolet pickup was traveling south on State Highway 279 at 9:50 a.m. when it veered right and into the bar ditch. The driver appears to have over corrected to the left where the vehicle rolled over.
The driver of the vehicle, 41-year-old Kendra L. Cowan of Brownwood, was pronounced dead at the scene, as well as a minor child.
Rachel Nandin, 42, of Brownwood, was transported to Hendrick Medical Center with a stable/incapacitating injury. Another minor child was injured in the accident, but no further information was provided on the child’s condition.
None of the passengers in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts.
