BANGS – The Bangs Lady Dragons chalked up a 7-4 victory over the Early Lady Horns Monday afternoon in the District 8-3A softball opener for both squads.
Bangs (1-0 in district) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Early (11-4, 0-1) drew even at 2 in the top of the second and grabbed a 4-2 edge in the third. The Lady Dragons answered with a three-spot in the third to seize a 5-4 advantage and tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The Lady Dragons finished with six hits including a home run and three RBIs from McKenzie Hughes, two hits each from Jadyn Miller and Jordan Valdez, one hit and one RBI from Sierra Lorah, and two RBIs from Neeley Bradley.
In the circle, Abby Wolf went the distance and yielded two earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks to claim the victory.
The Lady Horns’ six hits came from Marissa Reedy, who finished with two and an RBI; Jordan Simmons, Jordyn McIntire and Trinity Torrez with one and an RBI apiece; and Aubrey Greaves with one hit.
Teagan Lopez pitched for Early and yielded two earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.
Both teams committed four errors.
Bangs will venture to Dublin at 11 a.m. Wednesday while Early hosts Comanche at 5 p.m. Friday.
