U.S. Congressman August Pfluger will host an informational program for high school students who might be interested in attending college at one of the five United States military service academies:
*** U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York
*** U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland
*** U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado
*** U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut
*** U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Nassau County, New York
In addition to a free college education, the military academies offer excellent academics, leadership training, and a career in the United States military. Admission standards are high, and interested students should start preparing early for admission. Congressman Pfluger’s office issued the following statement:
“At Academy Night, we expect both underclassmen (as early as 8th grade) and current candidates to attend. For the younger students we want to provide them with two things: an understanding of what is expected of a professional military officer/military life, and what they need to do throughout their high school career to position themselves to be a good candidate for an Academy or ROTC appointment. For the juniors, this event will give them a chance to narrow their focus and officially start the nomination and application process — including still applying for some of the summer leadership programs available at your academies.
“Students should ask themselves these questions — Are you ready for a four-year program of academic, military, and leadership instruction? Do people look to you to lead? Are you willing to defend and keep America secure as a military officer? If the answer is yes, then come to San Saba High School on March 11th to learn more about our United States Service Academies!”
Congressman Pfluger recently nominated Jackson Patrick of Goldthwaite High School to the U.S. Air Force Academy.
The Academy Night program will take place on March 11 at the San Saba High School, 800 Wallace Street. The informational program will begin at 6:00 p.m., but students are encouraged to arrive at 5:30 p.m. for registration.
If planning to attend, an RSVP is requested (though not required) to: [email protected].
