The Brownwood Lions baseball team dropped its season opener during the Brown County Invitational Friday night at Morris Southall Field, falling to Giddings by a 7-2 count.
The Lions (0-1) gave up single runs in the first and third innings, but drew even with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Giddings fired back with a five-spot in the top of the fifth inning.
Brownwood tallied just two hits – by Cole Miller and Logan Posey, who accounted for the Lions’ only RBI. David Turner and Justin Valdez drew walks.
The Lions’ pitching staff of Aidan Howard, Campbell Gilmore and Gavin Brandstetter gave up one earned run on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Defensively, Brownwood committed six errors.
The Lions are slated to be back in tournament action at 6:15 p.m. Saturday against Jacksboro.
