The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Wednesday morning:
On Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at approximately 12:45 a.m., Officer James Holdar observed two minibike motorcycles traveling in an unsafe manner in the area of Chestnut St and Hendricks. Both minibikes were able to elude Officer Holdar by driving into a wooded area.
at approximately 1:30 a.m. the minibikes were observed driving southbound in the 900 block of Austin Ave. The minibikes were traveling on the sidewalk and in the roadway. Officer Jayme Bowman attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the minibikes, again, began eluding officers. In the area of Ave D and Austin Ave, the minibike drivers separated; with one traveling westbound on Ave D. Officer Bowman continued to pursue the minibike on Ave D and traveled in the residential area between Ave D and Brady Ave along 1st Street. Eventually the minibike operator lost control of the bike at the intersection of Ave A and 2nd St. The driver was able to elude officers on foot from there.
While Officer Bowman was with that minibike, Corporal Noe Acosta was able to locate the second minibike at 1st St and Ave B. This minibike continued to try to elude officers until he came to a stop in the 1000blk of Brady Ave. At that time, 26y-year-old Jonothon Reed Lopez of Brownwood was taken into custody. Lopez explained to officers that he was simply out wanting to have a little fun.
Lopez was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail where he was charged with Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle.
