BANGS – The Bangs City Council on Monday approved reserving the Event Center June 24-25 and waiving the city and park ordinance allowing vendors to set up for BangsFest.
Slated for June 25, BangsFest is replacing the long-standing tradition of MayFest, which has been held at the city park in previous years. The Bangs Municipal Development District will be in charge of the event.
Bangs Mayor Rick Phelps did state he felt the event should be held in its traditional city park location, but the MDD committee wanted to proceed with the plans at the Event Center due to its lack of overall use.
Phelps said the reason for the change in months is, “there’s been a lot of problems having it the second Saturday in May because of election time and it’s right by where you vote, along with the city-wide garage sales. It was just too much all at once. So trying to find a different date and a different name became necessary.”
Additional information on the event will be provided in the future.
