Susan Miller, age 76, passed gracefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, January 30, 2022, in her hometown of Sherman, Texas. Her husband, Robert Louis Miller, had accompanied her lovingly each day as she was under the care of the staff at Homestead of Sherman since early in December.
Funeral Services for Susan will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel; burial will follow at the Rochelle Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the services from 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Susan was born on January 24th, 1946, to Harold John Eilers and Olive Crane (Hart) Eilers, in Dallas. Susan grew up in North Dallas, near Love Field, and graduated from North Dallas High School- Class of 1964. She was a premier Letter Member of the North Dallas High School Marching Band and played the flute. Upon her high school graduation, she attended the University of North Texas, and met her husband, Robert, while she was in school. Robert, at the time, had 2 sons, William Barclay and Robert Scott. Susan and Robert fell in love, and were married May 1, 1965, at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Dallas.
Robert and Susan moved to Oklahoma, and they raised the two boys, and had 2 children of their own, Cathy Lynn and Timothy Garrett. Susan went back to study at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. She studied as an elementary teacher education major and graduated while raising 4 children. She began a career of educating children at Picket Center Elementary School just outside of Ada, Oklahoma. She later earned multiple master’s degrees in Education and School Counseling.
Susan was a retired school teacher and school counselor. During her career, she was well thought of by her students, and peers alike. She was elected to the Pontotoc County Reading Council as President, was part of the Oklahoma Teachers Association as well as the Oklahoma School Counselor Association. She was involved in extracurricular activities which included work with the Cub Scouts of America as a Den Leader and on staff as a camp counselor. She studied puppeteering and brought “McGruff the Crime Dog” to life for her campus.
Robert and Susan were members of Grace United Methodist Church in Sherman, Texas. They had also been faithful members of First United Methodist Church of Mount Pleasant and First United Methodist Church of Ada, Oklahoma before that.
Susan was a loving wife, a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, an amazing mother, a kind teacher, a supportive counselor, a determined leader, a helpful coworker, the sweetest grandmother, and she will be greatly missed. She always gave everyone the biggest smile.
Susan will be greatly missed by her husband of 56 years, Robert Miller of Sherman; her 2 children, Cathy Myers and husband Jeremy of Stratford, OK, Tim Miller and wife Shannon of Carrollton; 2 stepsons, William Miller of Mexia and Robert “Scott” Miller of Dennison; as well as her 7 grandchildren, Jayde Miller, Jasmyn Miller, Joshua Myers, Jonah Myers, Isaiah Myers, Aubrey Miller, and Brady Miller; and her younger sister, Barbara Ann (Eilers) Groff of Arlington, Susan will also be missed greatly by Boots the cat and Barclay the family dog, as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Olive Eilers; as well as two sisters, Marion O. (Eilers) Robinson, and Margaret (Eilers) Whited.
