The Howard Payne University men’s basketball team fell 95-85 in overtime to the University of Texas at Dallas Saturday afternoon in league action.
Howard Payne used key shooting at the end of regulation to force overtime but UT Dallas would go on to outscore the Yellow Jackets 14-4 in the overtime period to claim the 95-85 win.
After shooting 58.6% from the field in the first half, the Yellow Jackets could not connect on the same pace in the second (37.5%) and overtime (14.3%) periods. UT Dallas finished the game shooting 58.7% from the field.
Jerren Godfrey led the Jackets with 18 points going 4 of 8 from behind the arc. Fredrick Watts followed with 17 points. Jaylan Ballou had 14 points, five assists, five steals. Myles Brown had 13 points and Tyrell Thompson finished with 12 points and a game high 12 rebounds.
UT Dallas was led by Caden McKenzie with 24 points off the bench going 6 of 6 from behind the arc. Kolton Pruitt added 20 points and James Curtis finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 4-14 overall and 3-10 American Southwest Conference action. UT Dallas stands at 11-4 overall and 7-3 in league play. The Yellow Jackets will play next on the road next week at the University of the Ozarks on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
