Cold weather will once again grip Brown County and much of Texas today through the weekend. According to KOXE Meteorologist Randy Turner, a strong cold front will push through Brown County around mid-day today (Wednesday).
“The high temperature today will come late this morning. Once the front passes through, roughly around noon to 2 pm, expect a steady and rapid drop in temperature, likely to the 30’s by sunset tonight,” Turner said.
The low tonight is forecast to reach near 22 degrees under cloudy skies. With north wind at 20-30 mph, wind chills tonight will range from 8 to 15 degrees.
“Any light mist or drizzle falling tonight and Thursday will stick to surfaces, so there could be some slick spots on Thursday morning. I expect a high temperature Thursday only near 35 with wind chills remaining in the teens and 20’s all day,” Turner said. He noted that TxDOT was treating some area roads, bridges and hills on Tuesday afternoon in Brown County.
The forecast low Thursday night is 18, followed by a high in the mid 40’s Friday, upper 40’s Saturday and middle 50’s on Sunday.
If you are traveling to the south of Brownwood tonight or Thursday, note that there is a Winter Storm Watch in effect for much of the Hill Country and major metro areas surrounding Austin and San Antonio. A light glaze of ice and some minor snow accumulations on some bridges, overpasses and elevated roadways should be expected in the Hill Country and South Central Texas Thursday and Thursday night.
