The Brownwood Lady Lions secured their third victory in as many outings at the TexasBank Holiday Classic Wednesday morning, rallying from a halftime deficit for a 49-31 victory over the Valley Mills Lady Eagles at the Brownwood Coliseum.
With the win, the Lady Lions (15-7) will square off with Fort Worth Nolan Catholic at 6:40 p.m. today at the Coliseum for the top seed from Pool A and the right to play in Thursday’s tournament championship game.
Brownwood led 11-8 after one quarter, trailed 21-19 at halftime, but regained a 37-23 advantage through three frames after surrendering just one field goal in the first eight minutes after intermission.
The Lady Lions shot 37 percent (14 of 38) from the floor, including 43 percent (13 of 30) from inside the three-point arc. Brownwood also drained 76 percent (20 of 26) of its free throws which helped overcome a 22-turnover performance.
Brownwood also recorded 36 rebounds, with 11 coming on the offensive end, and recorded 15 steals.
Tessa Goodwin and Mady Pyle each finished with a team-best 13 points for the Lady Lions followed by Jaylen Savage with 11, Kynslee Walker with six, and Lilly Brasher, Kassidy Wooten and Lexi Greer with two points apiece.
For Valley Mills (14-5), Brenna Welsh led the charge with 15 points though 12 of those came in the first half. Kamryn Pankonien chipped in eight points for the Lady Eagles.
