On Wednesday, Brown County Broadcasting and Wendlee Broadcasting held their annual toy drives to assist with Toys for Kids donations.
KOXE’s Two Steppin’ for Toys generated 1,018 toys and $11,552 in donations – including one check for $4,728 from Hi-Way Auto Parts/Hi-Way Scrap Metal. The event was the 16th annual for KOXE, which has raised in excess of $125,000 and collected more than 21,000 toys since its inception.
Among those who helped collect toys at KOXE were Brownwood Music, Brown County Farm Bureau, CMS Kinder Hearts Home Health, McDonald’s Lil’ Cactus Boutique, Brittany and Dustin Larremore Farmers Insurance, the Early Chamber of Commerce, Keeler’s Korner, Smile Doctors, Team Early, Jackson Hewitt, State Farm Justin Riggin, MCBank, Chic-fil-A, the Young Professionals of Brown County and the Brownwood Lionettes.
Wendlee, which began its toy drive in 2007, compiled $7,413 in monetary donations and collected 40 feet worth of toys that lined the parking lot of the Landmark Life Insurance building in downtown Brownwood.
Hendrick Medical Center made a $2,000 donation at Wendlee’s toy drive, while those who assisted in collecting and loading toys included the National Guard, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Winchell Volunteer Fire Department, Ryan Construction, TXR Railway, and members of the Early Longhorns football program.
Wednesday was the final day to sign up for Toys for Kids, and as of that morning 423 families had registered. Toys and monetary donations are still being accepted and volunteers are always welcome to assist on distribution day, which is Saturday, Dec. 18 at Grand Starz. Duties on distribution day include wrapping gifts, being an elf, helping with paperwork, and providing food, drinks and snacks for the helpers.
Still desperately needed for donation are teen and pre-teen items such as hair brush sets, sports stuff of any kind, cologne sets, shaving kits, art kits, model car kits, skateboards, blankets, bed sets, and remote control toys.
