During Monday’s Brown County commissioners court meeting, no action was taken on the burn ban, which remains in place.
Lisa Dick with the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department, provided the most recent COVID-19 report. Last week, 30 positive results were reported a well as two deaths, bringing the number of COVID-related deaths in Brown County to 193. Additionally, 233 first doses of the COVID vaccine were administered last week, as well as 311 second doses. Overall, 41.38 percent of the county is vaccinated.
Commissioners approved the hiring of Darby Adams as a jailer at the Brown County Jail at a salary of $36,000. Hill informed commissioners four jailers are still needed.
No action was taken regarding the consideration and possible approval of financially assisting Brookesmith ISD in the purchase of a COVID-19 disinfectant machine. The cost of the machine, including assistance from a grant, would be $39,000. Discussion regarding using the machine for other school districts in the county, as well as the county jail, was entertained. Ultimately, commissioners determined more research was needed on the matter before making a decision.
