LORENA – The Brownwood Lady Lions were unable to hold a fourth-quarter lead and suffered a third straight defeat as Class 5A Leander rallied for a 37-34 victory at the Lorena tournament Friday morning.
The Lady Lions (8-4) trailed 7-5 after one quarter and 18-15 at halftime, but took a 28-23 lead into the fourth period where they were outscored 14-6 over the final eight minutes.
Brownwood shot 34 percent (12 of 35) from the field, including 25 percent (3 of 12) at the three-point arc, and 43 percent (7 of 16) at the free throw line. The Lady Lions also committed 20 turnovers and pulled down 26 rebounds.
Tessa Goodwin led Brownwood with 12 points followed by10 from Jaylen Savage, five from Kassidy Wooten, four from Kynslee Walker and three from Mady Pyle.
Gabby Edo paced Leander (7-4) with 10 points.
The Lady Lions begin bracket play in the Lorena tournament at 1:30 p.m. today against District 6-4A rival Gatesville.
