LORENA – The Brownwood Lady Lions opened the Lorena tournament Thursday with a second straight loss to a Class 3A Top 10 squad, falling to No. 5 Fairfield by a 69-20 count.
The Lady Lions (8-3) trailed 15-8 after one quarter, 32-14 at halftime, and 50-20 through three frames. Brownwood did not record a point in the final stanza.
Jaylen Savage scored 11 points for Brownwood trailed by three from Alexa Arreola, two each from Kassidy Wooten and Lexi Greer, and one apiece by Kynslee Walker and Tessa Goodwin.
Brownwood shot 20 percent (7 of 35) from the floor, 8 percent (1 of 12) from three-point land, and 71 percent (5 of 7) at the free throw line. The Lady Lions also committed 24 turnovers and recorded only 13 rebounds.
Fairfield (5-1) received 28 points from Breyunna Dowell, 10 from Addisyn Cox and 10 from McKinna Brackens.
The Lady Lions will tangle with Leander at 9 a.m. Friday, then begin bracket play at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
