Organizers announced that Rex Tackett was named Grand Marshal for the 2021 Christmas Under the Stars Lighted Christmas Parade which will take place Thursday, December 2nd at 6:30 PM in Downtown Brownwood.

“Rex is a great example of community leadership and service and we are proud to honor him as this year’s Lighted Christmas Parade Grand Marshal. Said Nathan Smith, Executive Director of Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce. “As a strong supporter of local business, Rex and Mariann have each contributed so much personally and professionally over the years to the community.”

Rex Tackett freely lends his talents as Auctioneer and Master of Ceremony across Texas. He has served as a Master of Ceremonies numerous times at the Brownwood Area, Early and Coleman Chamber of Commerce Banquets. Helping charities was Rex’s motivation in becoming an auctioneer and over the years he has helped raise 100’s of thousands of dollars for organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club of Brown County, West Texas Rehab, CASA, The Corinne T. Smith Animal Center, Brown County Youth Fair, as well as Brooksmith, Early and Winchell Volunteer Fire Departments. Rex has had a passion for the radio industry since 1969. He has worked for some of the great broadcast groups in America including Double Day Broadcasting, Clear Channel Communications, and CBS Radio. Rex was a founding partner in Wicks Radio that grew to own 19 radio stations across the U.S. during the 90’s. Rex was elected to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2012.

Rex and wife Mariann are owners of Wendlee Broadcasting which operates KXYL-AM/FM, KQBZ-FM and KSTA-AM.

This year’s parade is sponsored by Texas Rock Crusher Railway.

The parade will feature floats, vehicles, walkers, horses, classic cars, marching bands and more.

The parade kicks of the weekends Christmas festivities. The 13th Annual Christmas Under the Stars Festival will feature holiday games, crafts, food and attractions for kids of all ages. The event will take place on Friday, December 3rd from 4-8 PM and Saturday, December 4th from 4-7 PM at the Depot Complex and the Lehnis Railroad Museum and Visitor Center.
