With the Christmas shopping season in full swing, a new business in Brownwood provides unique gift options for the men in your life.
Matt’s Mantiques and Gifts, located at 201 East Adams in downtown Brownwood, has been open one month and offers men’s goods and collectibles, signs, lights, man cave items, liquor glassware, men’s skin care and beard products, and T-shirts among other gifts.
“Everybody has that man in their life that they says has it all, or they can’t find something for the guy that has it all, but I bet you can find it here,” said owner Matt Arrington, a Brownwood native who retired from the military in April 2019.
“I restored a car, I restored some gas pumps and some other things, and I have this collection of signs and man cave stuff so I figured I’d open a store,” Arrington said. “The whole thing was just an idea because there’s no place here you can go and buy a gift like these. You can buy clothes and some men’s products, but nothing like this. Within 30 days of having the idea I opened the doors.”
The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, but does stay open later for certain events, such as the Boo Bash on Halloween weekend. Arrington stated the store will also be open Thursday night during the Lighted Christmas Parade.
“We’re a little off the downtown circuit, but we try and stay open and keep the lights lit up if they’re driving by,” Arrington said.
Through the first month, the store has exceeded Arrington’s expectations.
“I’m actually surprised at how good we’re doing,” Arrington said. “It’s been going great.”
Regarding the selection of items available at Matt’s Mantiques and Gifts, Arrington said, “Everybody has a different idea of their man cave or man space, and I tried to cater to everybody. I go from the sports fans to the guys who have a one-car garage and a couple of signs on the walls, or maybe a neon sign, to guys with high end signs over $500. Most of my life I’ve been collecting but I’ve been seriously doing a lot of buying lately, looking for better quality stuff.”
Arrington and his wife have three teenage children, including a daughter who works at the store from time to time.
