ABILENE – In a battle of unbeatens, the Class 2A Division I No. 5 Coleman Bluecats saw their season reach its conclusion in the Region I semifinals at the hands of the No. 9 Hawley Bearcats, 21-7, Friday night at Hugh Sandifer Stadium.

Coleman (11-1) was limited to 222 total yards, with 203 coming on the ground, and a second-quarter touchdown by the Hawley (13-0) defense. The Bearcats produced 238 yards – 127 through the air and 111 on the ground – but managed to find the end zone three times.

Hawley jumped out to a 14-0 lead on runs of 10 yards and 3 yards by Austin Cumpton in the first and second quarters, respectively.

Coleman answered before the half on an 11-yard touchdown run by Cort McFadden.

The only points in the second half belonged to Hawley, which scored on a 17-yard pass from Rodey Hooper to Aeneas Segura with 5:08 remaining, which iced the victory for the Bearcats.

McFadden finished with a team-high 95 yards rushing for Coleman trailed by Ryland Gentry with 45 yards, quarterback Jadin Jackson with 29 and Dayden Hunter with 25.

Jackson completed just 2 of 8 passes for 19 yards – a 10-yarder to Braxton Smith and a 9-yard connection with McFadden.

For Hawley, Cumpton led the way with 120 yards on the ground, Hooper completed 11 of 18 passes for 127 yards and Kason O’Shields hauled in a team-high five catches for 72 yards.

Neither team committed a turnover.

Hawley advances to face Cisco (11-2) – a 34-14 winner over New Deal Friday night – in the Class 2A Division I Region I championship game next weekend.
