HAMILTON – Behind a program record-tying 12 three-pointers, the Brownwood Lady Lions achieved their 250th victory under head coach Heather Hohertz with a 64-21 triumph over McGregor Thursday morning to open Hamilton tournament action.
“250 wins feel great but this is all about the girls and the teams that came before them,” said Hohertz, who is 250-133 in her 13th season as Brownwood head coach. “I have been blessed with really good players. All the credit goes to the kids for buying in and going and out and competing and performing.”
The Lady Lions, who improved to 4-0 with the win, converted five three-pointers in the first quarter while jumping out to a 26-2 lead, then added four more in the second as the advantage stood at 41-12 at halftime. Brownwood tacked on two more treys in the third as the lead grew to 55-15, and added one more in the fourth period.
“The girls come out hot with their shooting and played with a mission in mind,” Hohertz said. “I was proud of their effort and energy.”
Alexa Arreola led the Lady Lions with 14 points and four three-pointers; Mady Pyle added 12 points and four treys; Jaylen Savage chipped in 11 points; Lexi Greer tallied seven points; Kassidy Wooten contributed six points on a pair of three-pointers; Tessa Goodwin also poured in six points; Kynslee Walker finished with five points and one trey; and Lilly Brasher also drained a three-pointer.
The Lady Lions resume tournament Friday with games at 12:30 p.m. against Comanche and 5:50 p.m. against host Hamilton.
