Gilbert ‘Gib’ Weyland Young

Gilbert “Gib” Weyland Young, 83, of Lubbock passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021. He was born December 17, 1937, in Lohn, Texas to Otis and Elizabeth (Moore) Young. Gib graduated from Lohn High School in 1956. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960. Gib married Peggy Lane on July 8, 1960, in Coleman, Texas . He later went on to attend Texas Tech University. Gib worked for National Cash Register (NCR) for many years, working as the service manager, and later he retired from there. After retirement, he owned his own business, G & G Inspections. Gib was a member of Sunset Church of Christ where he was a former deacon. He was a skilled handyman. Gib enjoyed electronics, woodworking, working on the farm, and spending time with his family.

Gib is survived by his wife, Peggy Young; children, Cathey (Keith) Vinson of San Antonio and Lane (Angela) Young of Austin; grandchildren, Caitlyn Vinson of Dallas, Paige Vinson of Lubbock, Andrea Young and Lucas Young, both of Austin; brothers-in-laws, Ward (Pat) Lane of Dallas, Rick (Barbara) Lane of Aledo, and Danny (Sally) Lane of Coleman; brother, Guy (Becky) Phillips of Brady; nieces and nephew, Rebecca Lane-Kokkinkis of Silver Spring, Maryland, Mark Lane of Houston, Kim Lane of Abilene, and Marguerite Lane of Abilene.

Gib was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Jim Lane.

A visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday November 19, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan St., in Coleman. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the Coleman City Cemetery.


A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, November 22, 2021, at Sunset Church of Christ, 3723 34th St, Lubbock, Tx.
