Jimmy Glenn Smethers, age 70, of Brownwood, passed away Friday, November 13, 2021, Care Nursing and Rehab in Early.
He was born June 12, 1951, in Weatherford, Texas, the son of Johnny Alfred and Minnie Charlene (Pack) Smethers. He graduated from high school and later received his Bachelors degree in theology while attending Baptist seminary. He pastored several churches in Texas and New Mexico and later served as a missionary in Mexico for three years. He also served in the U. S. Marines for five years. He was married to Mary Joann Hankins at Weatherford on July 23, 1969. He had lived in Brownwood since 2007 and formerly was from Weatherford. He attended Life Pointe Baptist Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Melissa Switzer and husband Arthur of Copperas Cove, Michelle Smethers and her significant other, Eddie Edwards of Early, and Jennifer Taylor and husband Randy of Brownwood. He is also survived by an adopted son, Guillermo Villasenor of Houston and brother Dicky Smethers and wife Loreda of Weatherford. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Joann Smethers, and an infant sister, Mary Elizabeth.
A celebration of his life will be held on December 4, 2021, at 10 am in the Davis-Morris Chapel of Heritage Funeral Home of Brownwood with his son-in-law, Arthur Switzer officiating. He will be buried at Curtis Cemetery in Weatherford.
Memorials are requested to be made to the donors favorite military charity.
