JV Lions complete perfect season with 42-26 triumph over Stephenville
The Brownwood JV Lions completed an undefeated season Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium with a 42-26 victory over Stephenville to capture the District 5-4A Division I championship.
The Lions (10-0), who outscored their opponents 408-39 on the season and recorded seven shutouts, were led in the finale by quarterback Ike Hall and tailback Logan McKibben.
Hall threw for three touchdowns and rushed for an 81-yard score on the first play of the game. McKibben added two rushing touchdowns and one through the air. Jake Jetton scored on a 61-yard screen pass to ice the victory, and Hayden Noe pulled down a team-high five receptions and scored once.
Defensively, the front seven gave up minimal yardage on the ground to the Jackets. Linebackers Jetton, Sam Kallman, Chris Robinson, Stevie Ramirez, and Hayden Deen turned in stellar efforts for the Lions.

Stephenville 16, Freshman Lions 6
The Brownwood Freshman Maroon Lions suffered a 16-6 loss to Stephenville in their season finale Thursday at Gordon Wood Stadium, finishing the 2021 campaign with a 6-3-1 overall mark.
Stephenville took a 7-0 lead in the first period on a strip sack, scoop and score.
The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 14-0 in the third quarter on a 19-yard touchdown pass.
In the fourth quarter, Weston Wolf blocked a punt and Jack Field recovered in the end zone for Brownwood’s touchdown. The two-point attempt was intercepted and returned for two points for the final 10-point margin.
Earlier in the fourth period, the Lions advanced deep into the Stephenville territory but a fourth down pass to the end zone fell incomplete.
Defensive standouts included Field (6 tackles), Cobe Walker (6 tackles), Antonio Ybarra (5 tackles, 1 TFL), Ricky Vazquez (4 tackles, 1 TFL), Robert Trowbridge (2 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack), and Wolf (2 tackles, 2 TFL, blocked punt).
