GRAND PRAIRIE – The Priddy Lady Pirates won the Region III-A cross country meet here Tuesday, while a pair of Pirate runners will also advance to the UIL cross country state championships in Round Rock Nov. 5.
The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs finished 10th as a team, the Blanket Tigers placed 17th, and the Richland Springs Lady Coyotes came in 19th. Each school was also presented individually at the regional meet as well.
Priddy’s regional championship team included junior Sydney Partin (2nd, 12:16.04) – who trailed only Sulphur Bluff’s Bailey Neal (12:06.76) – along with freshman Karissa Seider (12th, 13:14.17), sophomore Lindsey Grelle (23rd, 13:47.3), senior Danielle Goehmann (34th, 14:02.42), junior Mackenzie Morgan (52nd, 14:31.22), senior Emma Martin (65th, 14:50.81), and senior Alyssa Hurst (74th, 15:04.34)
Along with Priddy, which tallied 92 points, Slidell (136), Woodson (164), and Avery (178) qualified as teams.
On the boys side, Priddy finished eighth by juniors Zack Ward (13th, 18:31.63) and Javier Delbosque (20th, 18:51.77) earned state berths. Rounding out the Pirate runners were freshman Jay Vaquera (74th, 21:43.44), junior Luke Breum (76th, 21:48.67), junior Rico Luna (79th, 21:53.39), senior Hunter Gutierrez (98th, 23:02.53), and senior Marcus Gutierrez (137th, 26:48.27).
The Blanket Tigers’ regional competitors included junior Brayden Day (64th, 21:05.72), junior Levi Vazquez (85th, 22:16.55), junior Emmanuel McLaughlin (96th, 22.54), senior Mark Yeats (117th, 24:18.61), freshman Thane Yeats (135th, 26:07.84).
Blanket Lady Tiger junior Kashleigh Kensing also ran at regional came in 20th place in a time of13:37.48.
Running for the Lady Bulldogs were sophomore Avery Dozier (26th, 13:57.36), freshman Haley Eason (38th, 14:04.87), senior Grace Williams (44th, 14:15.35), freshman Madison McClain (86th, 15:20.37), and sophomore Bethany Blair (133rd, 19:08.66).
Zephyr freshman Eli Williams finished 37th in a time of 19:57.71 in the boys race.
Competing for the Lady Coyotes were sophomore Lili Appleton (62nd , 14:43.22), sophomore Ryleigh Bryant (73rd, 15:01.55), sophomore Raegan Wright (130th, 18:47.51), freshman Madison Thurmon (131st, 18:47.51), and sophomore Kelsey Stewart (140th, 21:03.75)
Richland Springs senior Jeremiah Usery was clocked at 24:17.05, good for115th place, in the boys race.
Miller Grove (28 points), Saltillo (74), Slidell (110), and Blum (114) were the boys teams to advance to state, and Miller Grove’s Lance Verner Davis (16:34.94) posted the best time.
