Donald Allan Rasmussen, 84, of Sun City, Arizona and formerly of Brownwood passed away in Arizona.
He was born September 2, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois the son of William A. and Gertrude Rasmussen. Following graduation, he served in the U. S. Air Force. He received a master’s degree and was an entrepreneur for many years. He married Martha E. “Beth” Mertz-High on November 25, 1983, in Corinth, Mississippi, she preceded him in death. He later married Aleta and resided in Sun City, Arizona. He was a Baptist.
Donald was the quiet founder of ESPN news and wrote the founding document to establish weight control and training for athletics in colleges and high schools throughout the country.
He is survived by his wife, Aleta, daughters, Allene Nichols of Columbus, Mississippi, Edith Ahern of Lake Forrest, Illinois, and Dara Halydier of Kansas, a son, Don Rasmussen of Austin, a brother, William Rasmussen and a sister, Vivien Rasmussen. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beth Rasmussen and a brother, Bob Rasmussen.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 P. M. on Saturday, October 30, 2021, in the Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.
