Lisa Beth (Shults) Ezzell, age 60, passed from this life on Monday, October 18th, 2021, in Rising Star, Texas.
Celebration of Life for Lisa will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Early Church of Christ with James Glasscock officiating; private interment will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Lisa was born March 25, 1961, to Jack C. and Carolyn (McLaury) Shults in Brownwood, Texas. Lisa lived her first and last years in Rising Star, but grew up in Iowa Park, Texas, where she graduated in 1979. She married her husband of 41 years, Bryan Ezzell, of Rising Star, and they eventually moved to San Antonio where she was a successful stockbroker working in financial services.
She gave birth to two children and was always proud to tell the story of their names. Lee McLaury “Tiger” Ezzell was named after his grandfather, Lee “Tige” McLaury. Lisa named her daughter Virginia (her grandmother’s name) Carolyn (her mother’s name) Ezzell but called her Gynnalyn. In 1988, Lisa and Bryan moved to Iowa Park to raise their family in the small town where she grew up. Lisa didn’t limit her mothering to just her two birth-children. Lisa’s love knew no boundaries. She was well-known for taking everyone she knew under her wing — officially, as a foster parent and, unofficially, as the surrogate mother of any young person who came around her.
Lisa was very proud of her success as a salesperson and office manager. She worked for The Smile Place and Breland Hensley Physical Therapy in Wichita Falls before Multiple Sclerosis forced her into medical retirement. Lisa still stayed busy pouring herself into all her kids’ activities and loved cheering on the Iowa Park Hawk Band. She was a proud FFA mom and continued to help students in Iowa Park after her children left home. When her daughter became an Agricultural Science Teacher, Lisa continued to mentor students in Gynnalyn’s classroom who were preparing for competitions.
Lisa was an avid reader. Her home library boasted more books than the average community library. She loved writing notes and cards to her friends and family on their birthdays and anniversaries even during times of bad health. Not only did she battle MS, but she also fought and beat breast cancer.
Lisa is survived by her parents, Jack and Carolyn Shults; children, Lee “Tiger” and wife Erin of Frisco, Gynnalyn Abbe and husband Kiley of De Leon, and a host of children that she fostered through the years; brother, Clayton Shults and wife Debbie of Carrollton; grandchildren, Anthony Muenster, Emma, Elijah and Hannah Ezzell, and Annabeth and Kenneth Abbe; nephews, Ethen and Evan Shults; and cousin, Steven Rose and wife Shelli of Olton. She is also survived by several other relatives and friends.
