On Monday, representatives from the Kohler plant in Brownwood were on hand at the Boys and Girls Club of Brown County, where 20 Chromebooks were donated by the company to the club.
On behalf of Kohler, Plant Manager Dale Lepp, Materials and Distribution Manager Tonya Tarrant, Project Analyst/ISO Dusti Charboneau, and HR Generalist Jackie Miller made the presentation to Katherine Palmer, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Brown County.
“Today we received 20 Chromebook donated from Kohler which is a huge blessing to our club,” Palmer said. “This summer we started a laptop giveaway program for any of our club members who participated in our summer reading program. Any kids who completed 10 hours of reading this summer earned a laptop, we were able to give out nine or 10. This donation of Chromebooks is going to make that program even more substantial in the future. I think we can build on last summer’s success this year with the option of the Chromebooks as well. We are always grateful for donations from our community and we can’t do it without the major support we receive from not only corporations but individuals in town.”
Kohler HR Manager Ruth Willis, who was unable to attend Monday, said via email, “Kohler Co. believes in contributing to the well-being of our associates, their families and the communities surrounding our manufacturing location. Our contributions of cash, products and services, as well as the time that our associates contribute to the common good, reflect conscientious responses to realistic needs. They also illustrate the positive relationships that should exist between business and society.
“In that spirit, Kohler Brownwood is donating 20 Chromebooks to the local, non-profit Brownwood Boys and Girls Club whose focus is providing a positive environment to learn, play and grow and believe this donation will help them achieve that goal. Kohler Brownwood values opportunities like this to support the children in our community and looks forward to continuing showing their support of
Palmer also gave the Kohler representatives a 30-minute tour of the Boys and Girls Club facility and shared details regarding the services the organization provides to youngsters.
“Giving people tours is huge,” Palmer said. “When you ask people about the Boys and Girls Club they know we keep kids after school and that’s kind of the extent of it, but we do so much more than that. We have dedicated activity rooms to specific areas of programming. We have a dedicated teen space for our middle school kids. We have a homework specifically where kids work on their homework with tutors. We’ve got arts and crafts, we have our gym for physical activities, our game room where we have pool, ping pong and those types of things where we teach sportsmanship. Really helping people understand the extent of what we provide to kids during the after school hours is very beneficial.”
