SANTA ANNA – The Class A Division I No. 1 May Tigers continued their dominance Friday night, improving to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in District 13 action with a 58-0 victory at Santa Anna – their third straight shutout.
Defensively, May forced five turnovers – increasing its season total to 29 – and scored on defense for 11th time this year and eighth straight game. The Tigers led 50-0 after the first quarter Friday night.
Kaysen King recovered three fumbles and scored the defensive touchdown, while also tallying four tackles with one for loss. Avery Williford led the Tigers with seven tackles including four for loss and a punt block, while other standouts included Brian Kunkel (7 tackles, and 2.5 tackles for loss), Damian Salinas (6 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception), Kaden Halk (3 tackles), Braden Steele (3 tackles, a fumble recovery, and a tackle for loss), Blake Harrell (2 tackles and 2 passes defended), Bryson Guerrero (2 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss), and Kross Kenyon (2 tackles).
Offensively, May produced 230 total yards against Santa Anna (6-2, 0-2) with 216 coming on the ground. Williford rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown, Harrell added 53 yards and two scores, Steele chipped in 48 yards and scored once, Halk’s lone carry was a 37-yard trip to the end zone and Salinas recorded 15 yards.
Through the air, Steele completed his only pass attempt for 14 yards to Chase Martin, who scored on the play.
Next week, May hosts Baird (5-1, 1-0), which is coming off a 78-30 non-district loss to Fort Worth Covenant Classical Friday night.

Richland Springs 92, Cherokee 70
CHEROKEE – In pursuit of a 20th straight district title, the Class A Division II No. 9 Richland Springs Coyotes secured their 79th consecutive league victory, 92-70 over the Cherokee Indians Friday night.
Richland Springs (5-1, 2-0) snapped a four-game win streak for Cherokee (4-3, 1-1) by erasing a 16-point second-quarter deficit to earn its 17th straight victory over the Indians in the series.
Trailing 46-30 with 2:07 left in the first half, the Coyotes closed the gap to 46-38 at halftime on a 14-yard touchdown run by Jadeyn Bryant with 52 seconds left before intermission. Then, in the third quarter, the Coyotes outscore the Indians 40-8 to open a 78-54 lead.
The Coyotes finished with 584 yards of total offense – 463 rushing and 121 passing – with a pair of turnovers. Defensively, Richland Springs yielded 481 yards, including 463 through the air, but created four takeaways.
Zane Capps sparked the Richland Springs offense with 285 rushing yards and six touchdowns while Bryant rushed for 95 yards and two scores and completed 9 of 11 passes for 121 yards and three additional touchdowns. Cohen Tharp caught four passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns and Nick Nilson finished with two grabs for 18 yards with a trip to the end zone.
Capps also led the Coyotes with 7.5 tackles and an interception, Bryant added seven tackles with three for loss, Nilson tallied 6.5 tackles, Brandon Stewart finished with five, and Jayden Sutherland collected five tackles and picked off a pass.
Next week, Richland Springs hosts Mullin (5-1, 0-1), which had a bye Friday after dropping its league opener to Cherokee, 92-42, last week. Coyotes head coach Jerry Burkhart will be looking to improve to 65-0 in district games at Richland Springs when the Coyotes return to action.

Coleman 42, Goldthwaite 6
GOLDTHWAITE – The Class 2A Division I No. 10 Coleman Bluecats remained undefeated and atop the District 4 standings with a 42-6 road triumph over the Goldthwaite Eagles Friday night.
Coleman (6-0, 2-0) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and stretched the advantage to 35-0 through three periods. The Bluecats finished with 356 yards – 225 rushing and 131 passing – with just one turnover. Goldthwaite (3-4, 1-1) finished with 202 yards – 170 on the ground and 32 through the air – with no turnovers.
Bluecat quarterback Jadin Jackson rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns while passing for 131 yards and another touchdown. Braxton Smith caught two passes for 90 yards, including an 84-yard touchdown, while Ryland Gentry chipped in 63 yards and a score on the ground. Cort McFadden also tacked on a 4-yard touchdown run.
For the Eagles, quarterback Jackson Patrick rushed for a team-high 47 yards and passed for 32 yards and a touchdown, caught by Aaron Anzua from 12 yards out. Cason Guthrie added a 20-yard reception while Seth Gardner rushed for 44 yards, Cutter Campbell chipped in 33 yards on the ground, and Carsyn Campbell tacked on 21 yards.
Next week, Coleman hosts Cisco (6-1, 2-0), fresh off a 69-0 thrashing of De Leon (0-7, 0-2), in a game that will likely determine the District 4-2A Division I champion. Meanwhile, Goldthwaite ventures to Winters (1-5, 0-2), which is coming off a 44-12 loss to San Saba (1-6, 1-1).

San Saba 44, Winters 12
SAN SABA – The San Saba Armadillos secured their elusive first victory of the season and remained in the thick of the District 4-2A Division I playoff race with Friday’s 44-12 home triumph over the Winters Blizzards.
San Saba (1-6, 1-1) generated 496 yards of total offense against Winters (1-5, 0-2) behind a balanced attack of 268 passing yards and 228 rushing yards.
Lance Taylor completed 17 of 30 passes with three scoring tosses – two to Wesley Lackey, who finished with five grabs for 148 yards, and one to Reagan Mejia, who tallied two receptions for 54 yards. Tyler Johnson added four receptions for 34 yards.
On the ground, Tegen Saiz rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown, Franco Franco added 58 yards and a trip to the end zone, Lackey contributed 46 yards and a score, and Taylor rushed for 24 yards and scored once.
Zuri Herrera led San Saba with 13 tackles followed by five tackles and a fumble recovery from Leonel Aranda, five tackles and a sack from both Dylan Ware and Ethan Gonzales, four tackles each from Mejia, Franco, Weston Oliver, Jaxzen Mask, and Saiz, along with three tackles and a fumble recovery from Drake Bryant.
Next week, San Saba ventures to De Leon (0-7, 0-2), coming off a 69-0 loss to Cisco (6-1, 2-0).

Panther Creek 44, Brookesmith 39
VALERA – The title defense for the reigning District 15-A Division II champion Brookesmith Mustangs began in heartbreaking fashion Friday night as the Panther Creek Panthers rallied late for a 44-39 victory.
Brookesmith (1-6, 0-1) took a 39-32 lead in the third quarter on a 9-yard Tristen Slayton touchdown run, but Panther Creek (3-4, 1-1) rallied with a pair of fourth-quarter scores – including the game-winning 50-yard scoring toss.
The Mustangs finished with 377 yards of total offense – 315 passing and 62 rushing – with three turnovers. Panther Creek mustered 287 yards – 214 on the ground and 73 through the air – and overcame six turnovers.
Grant Featherson caught seven passes for 143 yards with a touchdown for the Mustangs, Slayton added seven grabs for 83 yards and two scores, and Conner Heard finished with two receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Next week, Brookesmith welcomes Rising Star (3-4, 0-2), which is coming off a 52-18 loss to Sidney (3-4, 2-0).

Lometa 60, Zephyr 15
LOMETA – The Zephyr Bulldogs remained winless on the season as they dropped a 60-15 decision to Lometa in the District 15-A Division I opener Friday night.
No stats from the game were available.
Zephyr, which is now 0-8 on the season and 0-1 in league contests, will visit Jonesboro (7-0, 1-0) – a 70-8 winner over Evant (4-4, 0-1) Friday – next week. Lometa is 5-1 overall and 1-0 in district.

Eastland 21, Comanche 20
EASTLAND – For the second straight week, the Comanche Indians were denied their initial victory of the season in a District 5-3A Division II nail-biter as the Eastland Mavericks held on for a 21-20 win Friday.
Comanche (0-7, 0-2) finished with 404 total yards – 258 rushing and 146 passing – against Eastland (3-4, 2-0).
Luke Wilson rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Hudson Welch chipped in 102 yards and a score on the ground. Welch also completed 9 of 15 passes for 146 yards as Layden Welch caught three passes for 54 yards, Raymond Crossland tallied three catches for 42 yards, Kyler Beaty finished with two receptions for 39 yards, and Wilson caught a 12-yard pass.
Beaty and Ayden Fishback led the Indians with eight tackles apiece followed by Easton Gonzales and Ezekial Medrano with seven each, and Wilson, Dom Rios and Pierson Sorrells with six takedowns apiece.
Next week, Comanche hosts Millsap (3-4, 1-1), which is coming off a 25-21 victory over Merkel (3-4, 0-2).

Santo 42, Cross Plains 7
SANTO – The Cross Plains Buffaloes suffered their second loss in a row to start District 8-2A Division II action as they were flattened by the Santo Wildcats, 42-7, Friday night.
Cross Plains (4-3, 0-2) was limited to 163 total yards – 101 passing and 62 rushing – by the Santo (6-0, 1-0) defense.
Kade Purvis completed 16 of 30 passes for 101 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Asher Moses caught the scoring toss and finished with three receptions for 48 yards. Ryan Reed (4-16), Ryan Hopkins (4-15), Dusty Wyatt (4-15) and Spade Koenig (1-7) also caught passes.
On the ground, Dusty Wyatt picked up 57 yards to lead the way for the Buffaloes.
Next week Cross Plains hosts Meridian (1-6, 0-1), whose district bye fell Friday night, in a must-win contest.
